Letter Word Definition
B BONDAGE A prevailing term used by comic collectors to describe a woman who is tied up, and captive, ie Bondage Cover, Bondage Panel etc. Generally associated in GGA terms, and made popular because of Fredric Wertham's 1954 book S.O.T.I., in which he notes the attributes of Phantom Lady #17. See S.O.T.I.
B BOOK SCORE A score which is derived from a listed comic's 'Book Data & Charts' results (which does not take into account any 'Spanko' special interests). Therefore it is like a 'Relative Value Index' (RVI), and whose 'score' should pretty much reflect current mainstream Collector interest from all of Comicdom. The higher the score from this category, the higher it's Price Guide value should be. Scores do not reflect dollar amounts, only a numeric value used to measure popular interest when compared to other 'Book Scores' that are subjected to the same criteria. Also see Comicdom, Spanko Score, and Total Score.
B BRONZE AGE A comic book era, which runs from 1970-1979. It's generally acknowledged to have begun with the publishing of Green Lantern #76 in April, 1970, and can be sub-divided into Early, Mid, and Later groups.
B BUMPER INDEX As apposed to 'Headlights.' See Headlights. Part of our Book & Data Charts (in Character Chart #1), in which we rate an artist's enthusiasm for drawing a woman's posterior within a comic book story or panel.
C CCA Acronym for the 'Comic Code Authority.' Established in 1954 by public pressure, due to false hysteria, partly fueled by Wertham's S.O.T.I., in which comic books were labeled as a bad influence on children, to regulate the content of comic books in the United States. In other words, censorship. Comic book collector's see this as 'the great decline' in publisher's content, and generally books published between this period and the rise of The Silver Age have only modest values and demand compared to their 'Pre-Code' counter-parts. Also see Pre-Code, Silver Age, and S.O.T.I.
C CHARACTER CLOSE UP From our Book Data & Charts pages (Spanking Charts #3). Any delineated act of spanking where the zoomed-in perspective of the drawing does not allow for faces and figures to both appear within a single panel. ie Like a close-up (of any element, face or other, within the act of spanking). For panels utilizing this perspective 10 points are assigned toward the book's overall score.
C COMIC CON Short for Comic Book Convention. A gathering place for collectors to buys and sell comics. Not to be confused with 'Comicdom' which means something else entirely.
C COMICDOM A generalized term coined by comic book collectors to describe the entire universe of 'comic books.' As in 'Kingdom.' Not to be confused with 'Comic-Con' which means something else entirely.
C COVER Refers to a comic book's front cover, unless specifically accompanied by the word 'Back' to describe a comic's back cover. Tremendous extra value is placed on a comic book with an outstanding, outlandish, offensive, controversial, kinky, sexist, sexy or violent cover. This holds particularly in the Golden Age, Pre-Code era, but can also apply to other eras as well. And even more demand can be attributed when a significant artist was responsible for the artwork. Also see: Golden Age, and Pre-Code.
D DAILIES Refers to a Newspaper strip that was published daily, generally in B&W. See Newspaper Strip
D DE-ICER A term coined by Smilin' Jack Creator and Artist, Zack Mosley, in the mid 1930s, to describe a woman so beautifully HOT, that she could melt the ice off an airplane's wing in a snowstorm. This term differs from Pinup Art, and predates the more prevailing term GGA. We believe this to be the earliest known attempt to orchestrate an original slang term for describing a sexy girl in the comics. See GGA.
F FETISH A form of sexual desire in which heightened gratification results from an interest in some object, practice, action or item of clothing or part of the human body for an individual person. Not all of mankind is effected the same way when viewing such objects, actions, practices, or parts of the body, and the degree of obsessiveness to an object, body part or practice will vary from individual to individual. Some people are smitten with more than one fetish. Fetishism may also be referred to a 'Kink' or being 'Kinky.' "Different strokes for different folks. Some people like Rocky Road ice cream, and some like Strawberry. The masses tend to like, and are referred to as 'Vanilla'. To each their own."
G GA Acronym for 'Golden Age' See Golden Age.
G GENDER LINK Only two types of gender links are considered at this site, which we believe fully co-incides with the definition of GGA. F/F: Female/Female and M/F: Male/Female. The first part of the alpha code represents the dominant character's role, while the latter represents the role as the submissive in a spanking scene. The letters are capitalized to represent that they are Adults or Young Adults, and not minors.
G GGA Acronym for 'Good Girl Art.' See Good Girl Art.
G GOLDEN AGE A comic book era. Most agree it officially began with the publishing of Action Comics #1 in June, 1938, though the duration of the Golden Age is often cited as between 1939-1955. There is modest room for slight variation ranges.
G GOOD GIRL ART A style of art from the 1940s and early '50s in which scantily clad, and big-bosomed women were exploitively rendered and pleasingly objectified (like pin-up art) within the pages of comic books for the entertainment of the predominantly male readership (targeting soldiers who had returned home after WWII). This style of art was subtilely woven into different genres of comic books. Also known as GGA.
G GRADE Refers to one of any number of singular sub-categories which specifically describes a single comic book's physical state or condition. Each separate category or Grade has it's own ID by Name, Condensed Alpha name, and a corresponding numeric value from 0.2 (the lowest) to 10 being the highest. Comic Book collecting has become very sophisticated, and pin-pointed Grades can be deciphered by experienced collectors.
H HEADLIGHTS A woman's protruding, buxom, and/or exaggerated breasts as drawn in the comics, especially in regard to the Golden Age era. Fredric Wertham seemed to make this term famous with comic book collectors when he noted in his 1954 book S.O.T.I. in reference to The Blue Beetle #54 that "Children call these 'headlights' comics." See S.O.T.I.
M MODERN AGE A comic book era that generally refers to 1986-present day. These books are quite common, and can be located in most grades easily.
N NEWSPAPER STRIP A sequential strip of comic book panels that were published in a newspapers on newsprint, often published in B&W, as line art, during weekdays and full color on weekends and/or Sundays depending on the era. Sequences could be a self-standing plot, or part of a serial type of plot which would be continued the nest day.
O 1 KNEE A categorized spanking position from a book's SPANKING CHARTS #3: The Content in which a female is splayed over a single raised knee with her butt pointing skyward. For panels illustrating this position 20 points are assigned toward the book's overall score. This is just one of several optimal spanking positions.
O OTK Acronym for 'Over The Knees.' Also refers to 'over the lap.' The most efficient position for delivering a spanking, and for controlling the recipient. Differs here from other spanking positions. Also, pertains here as spanking position from a book's SPANKING CHARTS #3: The Content. For panels illustrating this position 25 points are assigned toward the book's overall score. This is the highest ranked position a spanking panel may achieve (there's nothing finer).
P PANEL Comic books and strips are in essence a sequence of cartoons or illustrations which unite to tell a story via a collection of individual frames, or single drawings, each of which is called a panel.
P PANEL SIZES Criteria from our Book & Data Charts: SPANKING CHARTS #3: The Content. Panel sizes are measured in 'United Inches (UI),' that is length plus width. Points are then awarded in Charts based upon size.

S SAFE WORD A a code-word, pre-selected and agreed upon by adult dominants and submissives prior to Spanking or other types of BDSM fetish play, and used by the submissive to convey their physical or emotional state to the dominant player when approaching, or breaching a boundary. Most often used to put a halt to, or to stop the play scene outright, and to immediately break roles in order to best communicate appropriately. See Spanking.
S SCENE An illustrated setting in a comic book that is part of a story, composed by a series of sequential panels. Every scene has it's own purpose in a story. A spanking panel may appear in a scene, but that does not constitute a title of 'Spanking Scene.' See spanking Scene.
S SILVER AGE A comic book era which began with DC's publishing of The Flash in Showcase #4 in Sept.-Oct. 1956. It's cited to cover all books published between 1956-1969, though there may be slight variation in the general start date.
S SOTI Acronym for 'Seduction Of The Innocent.' This is the title of a book from 1954 by Anti-Comic Book advocate Fredric Wertham. His published effort accuses and implicates comic books (sex, drugs, violence and whatever else) for the rise of juvenile delinquency and the decline of family values. He pin-pointed specific issues. His efforts ultimately led to the establishment of the C.C.A., a self-censoring independent body in 1955. In hindsight, it has all proven to be hogwash, and the books that Wertham noted, have become valuable and prized items to collectors. See C.C.A.
S SPANKING If you don't know what the standard definition of this noun means, then you're probably visiting the wrong site. To Spankos, the act of spanking is a totally consensual practice between two adults. It is NOT endorsed or advocated for children. Often, but not always, part of spanking fantasies, similarly to Bondage, involve an element of non-consensuality into the specific fantasy as part of role playing, but it is important not to confuse that with actual non-consentuality (which is in no way practiced or approved of). This type of play sometimes involves a 'safe word.' See Safe Word.'
S SPANKING PANEL An individual frame within a sequence of frames that compose a comic book page, that contains a depiction of either an administered or threatened spanking, where the process already has begun. It's substance is more than a text or blurbs, but rather must embody a visual depiction of the complex ritual to earn this valuable title.
S SPANKING PANELS More than 1 spanking panel. The second panel may include a different angle of the event, or part of the sequence of events such as an apprehension, a character close-up, or a nifty aftermath delineation. Two panels does not constitute a 'spanking scene.' See Spanking Scene, Spanking Panel.
S SPANKING SCENE To earn this coveted title, the story's main purpose for setting a scene is to deliver a Spanking, as apposed to a spanking occurring in a scene that had another purpose. Is generally composed of three or more related panels depicting a spanking event. A spanking in a scene generally has a beginning, middle and end.
S SPANKO An endearing term coined by those with a Spanking Fetish to label themselves as such.
S SPANKO SCORE A score which is derived from a listed comic's 'Book Data & Charts' results (which ONLY takes into account 'Spanko' special interests). Therefore it is like a 'Relative Value Index' (RVI), based upon Spanko interests, as defined by the Spanko criteria outlined in every 'Book Data & Charts' page on this site. The higher the score from this category, the higher it's overall sentimental value relating to Spanking and Spanking references. Scores do not reflect dollar amounts, only a numeric value used to measure popular interest when compared to other similar 'Spanko Scores.' Also see Book Score, and Total Score.
T TOTAL SCORE A score which is derived from a listed comic's 'Book Data & Charts' results based upon a combining both a comic's 'Book Score' with it's 'Spanko Score.' Therefore it is like a combined 'Relative Value Index' (RVI), based upon Spanko and non-Spanko interests in any given comic book. The scores are dictated by the accumulation of criteria results as outlined in every 'Book Data & Charts' page on this site. The higher the score from this category, the higher it's overall sentimental rank on this site. Scores reflect only a numeric value used to measure popular interest and rank when compared to other similarly rated comics. Also see Book Score, and Spanko Score.
T TTWD Acronym for "This Thing We Do." Commonly used in the Bondage and Spanking communities to refer to those activities which define their fetish interests.
U UNDER ARM A categorized spanking position from a book's SPANKING CHARTS #3: The Content in which a female is lifted off the ground and locked firmly in place under 1 of the dominant's arms with her butt facing forward. For panels illustrating this position 20 points are assigned. This is just one of several optimal spanking positions.
